Miskolc also awarded the achievements
The achievements of teachers, researchers and athletes associated with the University of Miskolc were also honoured at the Miskolc City Day celebrations held on 11 May at the Miskolc National Theatre.
On the city's holiday, the work of those who have shown outstanding performance, set an example for the community and enhanced the reputation of Miskolc is recognised year after year.
He received an award from the University of Miskolc:
Dr. Emőke Kiss-Tóth received the Award for the University - For the City, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences for her work in launching and developing higher education in health sciences in Miskolc.
The Miskolc College of Medicine was launched in 1987. For more than two decades, the Faculty of Health Sciences has been providing a wide range of education, which has since been integrated into the University of Miskolc. The launch and development of the training to a high level is due to the perseverance, hard work and dedication of Dr. Emőke Kiss-Tóth and the teaching team led by her.
"It took a lot of energy, commitment and boundless enthusiasm to transform a 40-person, one-session 'institute' with three staff members into a faculty-ranked University of Miskolc with 5 bachelor's, 4 master's, 6 postgraduate programmes and several regional health training programmes. The focus of my plans is always to maintain and develop Miskolc-based higher education in health sciences. A priority is to continuously expand the training portfolio according to demand and to create the conditions for a Doctoral School of Health Sciences. As Head of the Faculty of Health Sciences, I am also responsible for the health protection of the citizens of the University of Miskolc. For me, this award is a confirmation that it is worth persevering for a good cause even in the greatest headwinds. The realisation, almost four decades ago, that graduates in the peripheral areas of the country must be trained locally if they are to stay locally, is still just as important today, if not more so. But the perseverance and tenacity of one person is not enough, we need 'a team'! It all depends on whether we can build a well-functioning team around us." - said Dr. Emőke Kiss-Tóth in the Pro Urbe publication published on the city's day.

Prof. Dr. Tamás Prugberger, Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Miskolc, received the Ákos Bizony Honourable Law Prize.
"His scientific recognition, helpfulness and student-friendly character is proven by the fact that he has been the supervisor of more than 50 doctoral students, many of whom have obtained scientific degrees (...) Prof. Dr. Tamás Prugberger is a member of the public body of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and his scientific activity is indicated by the fact that he is the author or co-author of nearly 500 scientific publications. He has presented his scientific results to the scientific community at numerous conferences, international meetings and lectures. In 1989 he was invited to the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Miskolc, and until 2002 he was Head of the Department of Agricultural and Labour Law at the Institute of Civil Sciences of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Miskolc. Since 2007 he has been Professor Emeritus of Law and Political Science at the University of Miskolc. He was awarded the title of Master Teacher in 2005 in recognition of his teaching work. He was an active member of the Doctoral Council of the University of Miskolc until 2016. He was elected Honorary Citizen of the University of Miskolc in 2023", he was mentioned in the Pro Urbe publication published on the City Day.

The Herman Ottó scientific prize was awarded to Prof. Dr. Endre Dobos, who works for the protection and promotion of topsoil as a professor of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Miskolc and as the president of the Hungarian Soil Science Society.
"The University of Miskolc - thanks to the teaching and research carried out here, and the soil science museum here - has put itself on the national and international map of soil science. Miskolc became the headquarters of the Hungarian Soil Science Society. Endre Dobos, head of the Department of Geography and Geoinformatics at the University of Miskolc, has played a significant role in this. Thanks to his studies, professional contacts and application experience, he would have been invited to several universities, but he stuck with Miskolc. The explanation is simple: he was born here and loves the city. And he is particularly pleased that more and more people in Miskolc - beyond the university - are recognising the importance of soil research and are making use of this knowledge. (...) In addition to his teaching and research work, he has set up the University of Miskolc's soil research repository. This collection currently contains more than 400 sections from 10 countries (...) During his career he has been involved in several major international research projects and his professional assignments are also noteworthy. For example, he was commissioned by the European Union to produce a digital soil map of Italy, and in 2000 he was awarded an OECD grant to create a digital SOTER database of the Midwestern states of the United States of America. Meanwhile, he organised and chaired for several years the Digital Soil Mapping Working Group, which supports the work of the EU Joint Research Centre, from 2004, according to the Pro Urbe publication published on the day of the city.

The "Athlete of the Year" award was given to Anna Tóth, athlete of DVTK, a student of the University of Miskolc. Her career so far is "paved" with bronze medals at the World and European Championships.
"Over the years I have achieved many good results, and I am very proud of them. But the most outstanding ones are my bronze medals at the U20 World Championships in 2021 and 2022. It is a great feeling that I became the first female sprint podium finisher in the history of Hungarian athletics. The bronze medal I won at the 2023 European U23 Athletics Championships is also on the front row of my shelf. I am also very happy to have qualified for the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary (...) I am very proud to have finished 27th in my first ever World Championships for adults, with the second best time of my career. (...) As a local patriot, I have always tried to stay close to Miskolc and the region, which is why I chose the University of Miskolc to continue my studies. And to be awarded the "Sportswoman of the Year" award for the second time deepens my bond", Anna Tóth said in the Pro Urbe publication published on the city's day.
